After suffering two sports injuries (knee and shoulder) I took up yoga in order to maintain my fitness in a low impact environment. As a newbie, I mentioned my injury limitations to each teacher before class. Most just acknowledged the information and replied that I should just “try not to overdo it.” Desiree was different. She made specific recommendations regarding vinyasas and poses that might aggravate my injuries and gave alternatives. After class, Des offered private sessions that would focus on my issues.

We met a couple of times a month, working on balance, strength, and posture. Des monitored my progress over time, noting pain relief and improved balance of my knee and increased range of motion in my shoulder, adding new routines catered to my needs. Each session ended with a Thai stretching massage, again focused on my problem areas.

I’m now running pain-free at the same pace as prior to injury and my shoulder range of motion is nearly equal to pre-injury. I’m confident that if I continue the exercises and postures that Desiree taught me, that I will continue to improve.”

Desiree is an amazing, talented yoga teacher. She knows versatile styles of yoga including Hatha Flow, Yin, and other styles. She is patient but challenges you to be your best and really transforms your body, mind, and spirit. She is also a great massage therapist and excels both in Thai and Swedish. Desiree is one of my favorite yoga teachers because of her grounding energy, her flexibility in changing up a class to better meet the needs of her students, her ability to teach a variety of classes from a gentle flow, a strong vinyasa or Thai massage. I have been fortunate enough to take yoga classes with Desiree for over 3 years. Although I’ve been practicing yoga for over 10 years, she is the first instructor who has taken a personal interest in me. I’ve had a couple of injuries that have impacted my ability to move properly. She has given me specific exercises and yoga poses that target these areas. They feel better almost immediately. In addition, my husband and I travel several months each year causing me to miss my regular yoga classes. Desiree offered to and developed a series of poses, working my entire body, and then videoed herself doing the poses so I could practice yoga while traveling. Those videos continue to help me maintain my strength and flexibility when we are on the road.

 

In her classes, Desiree pushes her students, making sure we are working every part of our body, often focusing on specific areas, strengthening each muscle group and building good posture along with everyday healthy habits. She makes it a point to get to know each of her students and their individual needs. She reminds us not to forget our fingers, toes, and eyes – areas that often get overlooked yet work so hard for us in other aspects of our lives.

 

Desiree has a calm spirit and is friendly, open and welcoming. But most of all, Desiree makes yoga fun and doesn’t take herself too seriously. I appreciate the role she has played in my life and look forward to where our journey will take us.
